COMMUNICATIONS PLANNING - SCHOOL SYSTEM

Important Outcomes to Achieve

Phase One - Persons responsible for timely decisions and possible rapid communication of those decisions become able to monitor communication loops containing information enhancing the quality of the decisions they make.

Phase Two - Communication Loops are established between Administrative offices and individual schools. Important decisions can now be communicated immediately, precisely (text form) and simultaneously. Individual schools can now get information quickly from Administrative offices as well as First Responders in their own immediate area (fire, police, hospital, safety, etc).

Planning & Deployment

  • Phase One - Superintendent and other selected administrative leaders should have a receiver to receive and monitor information being transmitted by First Responders, Utility and Safety agencies.
  • Phase Two - Receivers are purchased for all school and other physical facilities used on a daily basis. Telephone numbers are obtained by the headquarters to deliver information to schools by various groupings, i.e., all schools, all elementary schools, all middle schools, all school on the northeast side of town.

Phase Three - Each school now has the capability to send a general information message or an emergency alert to those with vested interests in the school. Parents and others will be able to receive notices about school activities or, in the event of a situation, information about the safety of their children and what responses may be appropriate or necessary for them at that time. No one has to wonder "what is going on?".

Phase Four - Very specific information can now be delivered to relatively small groups of people.

  • Phase Three - Each individual school obtains a telephone number so that school based information can be transmitted.
  • Phase Four - Telephone numbers are obtained for each classroom or teacher as well as activity based groups such as band/athletic boosters, PTO, drama, music and civic clubs.
